Starting a fashion brand is exciting, but one of the biggest challenges for new designers is finding a manufacturer that accepts a low MOQ (minimum order quantity). Many factories require thousands of pieces per style, which makes it nearly impossible for small businesses to start.
The good news: Turkey is one of the best places for small brands to start production. In this guide we explain what MOQ means, why manufacturers have minimums, what "no MOQ" really means, and how you can keep your first order small.
What does MOQ mean in clothing manufacturing?
MOQ stands for minimum order quantity: the lowest number of pieces a manufacturer will produce of one style.
- Large factories often ask for 500–1,000 pieces per style.
- Flexible manufacturers in Turkey often accept much smaller runs, sometimes 50–100 pieces per style or less.
Check whether the minimum applies per style or per color. Often it applies to each color separately, so 100 pieces in one color is a very different order from 100 pieces in four colors.
For a small brand, a low MOQ means:
- Less financial risk
- Testing the market quickly
- More styles instead of a large run of one item
Why do clothing manufacturers have minimums?
Minimums aren't arbitrary. They come from how fabric is bought and how production is set up:
- Fabric comes in rolls. A stock fabric is bought by the roll, and one roll of t-shirt fabric yields around 50 to 70 t-shirts.
- Dyeing has minimums. A fabric dyed in your exact color usually needs at least 200 kg per color for knitted fabrics and 500 to 750 meters per color for woven fabrics.
- Setup takes time. Cutting, preparing the sewing line and checking quality take almost as much effort for 50 pieces as for 500, which is why unit prices drop as quantities grow.
- Branded trims have their own minimums. Zippers, buttons or other trims made with your logo usually start at around 1,000 pieces.
Is there such a thing as no MOQ clothing manufacturing?
When you see "no MOQ", it usually means one of two things: print on demand, where your design is printed on ready-made blank garments, or blanks sold from stock. Both are fine for testing a logo, but you don't choose the fabric, the fit or how the garment is made.
When a garment is cut and sewn to your own design, there is always some minimum, because the fabric has to be bought and production has to be set up. So instead of looking for no MOQ, look for a manufacturer whose minimum fits a first collection and who lets you start with a single sample.

- Send your own fabric or trims if you already have them. That is no problem at all.

How to start working with a low MOQ clothing manufacturer
1. Define your collection

2. Request samples
Ask for a sample before placing a bulk order, so you're sure about the fabric, stitching and fit. With us, pattern making and sampling take around 2 weeks on average. Samples are paid, and the sample cost is deducted from your order if you go ahead with production.
3. Discuss MOQ early
Not every manufacturer lists its MOQ online. Ask directly:
- What is your minimum order quantity per style and per color?
- Is it lower with a fabric you have in stock?
- Do you offer lower MOQs for startups or test collections?
4. Clarify pricing
A low MOQ often means a higher price per piece. Make sure you understand the cost breakdown: fabric, trims, printing and packaging, and who pays for shipping and bank transfer fees.
5. Build a long-term relationship
Manufacturers value serious clients. Even if you start small, show that you plan to grow together.
